WINONA LAKE - Indiana Association of Cities and Towns will bring "1001 in Your Community" to Winona Lake June 5.

The educational program is designed to walk local leaders through recent property tax reforms passed earlier this year in Indiana House Enrolled Act 1001.[[In-content Ad]]The reforms in HEA 1001 focus on property tax relief for homeowners and result in reduced revenues for local government.

"The state has projected that government units in Kosciusko County are expected to lose a total of $224,825 by 2010," said Winona Lake Clerk Treasurer Retha Hicks. "With this revenue loss and other significant changes to the way local government operates, it is important to bring local leaders from the county and surrounding cities and towns together on June 5 to help government units plan for the future and continue to provide quality of life that our citizens expect."

The IACT representative will give a detailed presentation on HEA 1001 and will discuss how this new law affects local decision making and creates budget constraints that may force cuts in basic public services. The presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. June 5 at the Senior Center in Winona Lake.
