David L. McComb will be the new principal of Silver Lake Elementary School, Dr. Lee Harman, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools, recently announced.
McComb will replace Eugene England, who retired this year after more than 20 years as Silver Lake Elementary principal.
A Fort Wayne native, McComb was formerly an elementary principal with East Allen County Schools in New Haven. He also has been with Smith-Green Community Schools and Northwest Allen County Schools.
"I look forward to working with the parents and the community to enlist their help in support of the Silver Lake Elementary School students," McComb said. "Parental and community involvement is important for successful schools, and they should be a welcome member of the total school team."
He is a graduate of Manchester College and received his graduate degrees from Indiana University. He is a member of the Indiana Associations of School Business Officials and Elementary School Principals and the International Reading Association.
McComb and his wife, Melinda, have a 10-year-old daughter, Megan.
The Whitko School Board announced in its July meeting that William Hoppus has been hired as the new principal of South Whitley Elementary School.
Hoppus is replacing Peggy Hill, who was principal at South Whitley for five years. Hill recently moved to Woodview Elementary in Nappanee.
Hoppus was born and raised in Warsaw. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He received his master's degree from Purdue University in 1981.
Hoppus comes to South Whitley from the Paragon Elementary School in Martinsville, where he worked for seven years. He also was principal of Avilla Elementary/Middle School in Kendallville and Yeoman Elementary in Monticello. He was an elementary teacher for seven years at Yeoman and a mathematics teacher at Roosevelt Middle School for one year.
"I feel like I'm coming home, " said Hoppus. "I am really excited about being here where I grew up." He said the Whitko School system uses many of the techniques he has learned and taught. "I hope together we can move forward."
Hoppus and his wife, Marti, have three sons, Ross, 15, Reed, 12, and Ryan, 7. [[In-content Ad]]
