Kosciusko County Commissioners approved this morning drawing up an agreement for preliminary work on the extension of CR 1300N in Milford.
The agreement with engineering firm USI Consultants Inc. will look at the planned extension of CR 1300N west from Old 15 to Ind. 15. The new length of road will include an overpass to cross the Norfolk Southern rail line.
The project, termed the North Milford Truck Corridor, is estimated to cost $11 million, according to a plan developed by the Conexus Indiana North Central Regional Logistics Council last year. The plan identifies the extension as a major priority for improving transportation infrastructure in northern Indiana.
The goal of the project is to relieve the bottleneck of combined truck and passenger car traffic through Milford, creating better truck traffic flow for the movement of cargo, the plan states. Another goal is to foster economic development by improving access to the Milford North Industrial Park.
Also this morning, commissioners recognized Syracuse resident Roger Fetters as the Veteran of the Month. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958 and then the Army Reserves in Columbia City and Fort Wayne for another year.
During his time with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Ky., he was assigned to a combat engineering battalion, which he stayed with as an instructor. He recorded 37 jumps, and remarked this morning he’s glad that even in his 80s, his back and knees haven’t suffered for it.
And commissioners approved a proclamation declaring May Motorcycle Safety Month. The proclamation was presented by Ty Marshall, county treasurer for American Bikers Aimed Toward Education and a motorcycle safety instructor-in-training.
Commissioner Bob Conley remarked that he has heard from people who said their training from ABATE kicked in when they found themselves in trouble, and were able to save themselves from injury.[[In-content Ad]]
