Poor Choices

Gary Gerard is usually "on the money" with his News Views. His "McCain and Obama: Poor Choices" was no exception, albeit a bit disconcerting. Truly we are faced with voting for the lesser of two evils.

The debates, both presidential and vice presidential, were meaningless, and a far cry from the debate format that I was taught in school. Actually, I didn't watch any of the debates in their entirety. They were so media centered! And I could not bring myself to watch the post-debate wrap ups. I saw what I saw and heard what I heard. I didn't need a biased news analyst to retell me what took place or who won and who lost. There were no winners or losers. What I have gleaned from the debates and the continued flood of questionable information, unbelievable numbers and polls, is a list of yet unanswered questions for both candidates:

1. In light of the current world-wide financial crises we are experiencing, how can you justify spending hundreds of millions of dollars, campaigning to "save millions for the American middle class?" Obama was reported to have spent 84 million in just 20 days. That is obscene!!

2. If elected as leader of this country, which was founded on Christian principles, will you take the oath of office on the Bible?

3. Medical Part D Prescription Plan is not working!! Will you make an effort to fix it? My husband and I are both in the "donut hole" and are each paying the full price of nearly $500 per month for medications, while having to continue paying the monthly premium. There is something very wrong with this picture!

4. Will you submit certified copies of your birth certificate to confirm that you are, in fact, qualified by birth to be President of the United States?

I recently wrote some of my concerns to a friend. I ran it through spell-check before sending it. The name "Obama" came up as "error - not in our dictionary." The suggested change was "Osama." Scary, huh?!

I agree, neither candidate is truly qualified to be President, nor is either of the running mates; however, we must make a choice. To refrain from voting would be to shirk the responsibility and privilege afforded us as American citizens. Remember, citizenship is not easy!!

Ask yourselves which team is most likely to pay honor to our country, our flag and our heritage? Which team is the least likely to plunge us deeper into debt or jeopardize the security of America? Answers to those questions made my choice more palatable.
