Political Correctness

Whether you like The Donald or not, his voice resonates with common folks weary of politicians regurgitating meaningless drivel. How refreshing to watch a presidential candidate go hard against the grain and defy the biased, uber-liberal media. While the GOP establishment does not appreciate his refusal to play their games, I do and I’m not alone; nationwide polls have Trump crushing the republican field by historic margins. Just a few months ago Trump’s Iowa favorability rating was 27 percent favorable to 63 percent unfavorable. That number is now 61 percent to 35 percent. He isn’t going away, folks.
Polls show nearly 75 percent of the American public believes political correctness has gone too far. Despite this number, the PC crowd has successfully infiltrated the sports world over the past few years. The mascot of every amateur and professional sports team in the country is in danger because some oversensitive pansy deems it offensive. Impossible, you say? I doubted a school board in conservative Indiana would cave when it came to changing a high school mascot. Well, the folks in Goshen surprised me recently with a school board vote of 5-2 to drop the “Redskins” mascot. I bet those five board members are sleeping better knowing they have achieved so much for the Native American cause in the Maple City. I trust this terribly offensive word will be removed from every single trophy and plaque in their high school display cases. If you are going to do the thing, Goshen, do it right. Nobody likes a hypocrite.
The PC crowd in the United States demands we walk on eggshells, yet the U.S. just completed a nuclear deal with a country throwing homosexuals from rooftops and chanting “Death to America.” If our administration was truly sincere about gay rights, talks would not have even begun without pressuring Iran for a policy change. Perhaps I expect too much from negotiators content with leaving four United States citizens in foreign prisons.
I don’t know … maybe I’m being too harsh and need to give this PC thing a try. I’m sure there is something I can find offensive if I dig deep enough. I’m a sports guy, so I will give it a shot.
Tyranny and excessive taxation imposed on my ancestors by British Kings created hardships that kept them in poverty. How insensitive of the NBA to allow one of their basketball teams in Sacramento to have a king as their mascot. Their ownership just doesn’t understand what my descendants endured and should not benefit financially from the deep trauma they experienced.
Are the players of MLB’s Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim really angels? As a Christian, an athlete being called angel doesn’t sit well with me.
The New York Yankees aren’t getting off easily either. “Yankee” is a derogatory title for those who inhabit the northern part of the United States. As a northerner I am not pleased and have even considered a trip to Yankee Stadium to protest. Who’s with me?
Silly, isn’t it? Yeah, I think so, too.
