Police Seek Public's Help In Battle Against Drug Use, Abuse

Once again, law enforcement is looking to the public for help in eradicating drugs in the county.

As a way of getting the public involved, the Kosciusko County Special Operations Team - the county's drug task force - is providing a publicized chance for tips to be delivered for investigations.

Dubbed the "Enough" campaign, information can be submitted to the drug task force by telephone, fax or mail using a form (pictured) which will periodically be printed in the Times-Union.

The information can be given anonymously, but those who do reveal their identity to authorities can rest assured that their identity will be kept confidential.

The drug task force first used this program in 1990 and renewed it in January 1999. The SPOT officers hope this round will bring additional information for investigations.

Several multi-county drug raids have taken place during the past few years and the drug problem, while suffering temporary setbacks, often continues with some of the same people involved in the illegal dealings, police said. By continuing the "war on drugs," police hope to send a message to dealers and users that drugs are not welcome in Kosciusko County.

While the police are more interested in halting the operations of dealers and growers of marijuana, for example, getting the names of users often leads officers to those who are distributing illegal drugs.

With the "Enough" coupons, residents can turn in information about suspected drug dealing or use by simply jotting down the name of the suspect, the address where the activities are allegedly taking place and license plate information from cars frequenting the location.

Telephones at the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department are equipped with voice mail, so if someone calls with information when the drug officers are not in the office, the information can be left as a recorded message. [[In-content Ad]]
