An attempted armed robbery on Friday and a carjacking on Saturday are under investigation by local authorities.

In Friday's incident, two Hispanic males are suspects in the attempted armed robbery of a Grindle Trucking employee shortly before 5 p.m.

The 55-year-old female employee was about to enter the West Winona Avenue business with cash for the weekly payroll when she was approached by the two men as she exited her car. One man reportedly displayed a gun, which a witness told police was a 12-gauge Mossburg shotgun with pistol grips.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, the man with the gun asked the female employee for money and she said, "No," and walked toward the building. The man then moved in front of her and asked again. The woman said, "No, no," and walked toward a truck backed up to the dock at the business. The witness to the incident was inside the truck and said the men displayed the gun as soon as they exited their car. One of the men also may have had a handgun.

The suspects fled the area in a teal Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix and traveled in an unknown direction. One of the men is described as having black hair and a mustache that extended to his chin. He was wearing a yellow plaid shirt at the time of the incident.

On Saturday, a Syracuse man was robbed of his wallet and his car after being struck in the head with a whiskey bottle by an unknown female, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report.

Jack L. Reece, 62, South Oakwood Drive, Syracuse, was bleeding from the head while lying in the middle of Lakeview Street, between Palm Drive and South Harkless Drive, near Syracuse, when a witness saw the assailant hitting Reece.

The witness attempted to follow the car the woman left in, but was unable to do so because a fence was between him and the other car.

Reece told police that he was taking the woman home from The Frog Tavern when the incident occurred about 10:45 p.m. After striking him, the woman reportedly took Reece's car and left the area. Reece's wallet also was taken.

The suspect is described as a white female, 26 to 30 years old and having light brown hair that was in a braid at the time of the incident. She was wearing blue jeans and a black shirt.

The missing vehicle is a teal 1994 Oldsmobile 88 Royale with four doors. The license plate number is 43H2538.

Anyone with information on either crime is asked to contact the appropriate police agency. [[In-content Ad]]
