Police Beat: Drug Bust in Park, Baby Found Dead

Drug Bust at Downtown Park
Warsaw police have arrested an Atwood woman for dealing in a controlled substance at a Warsaw park.

On Monday, Warsaw police obtained an arrest warrant for Jody Lea Guiff O’Brien, 44, after undercover officers purchased morphine pills from  O’Brien at Central Park in Warsaw.

Warsaw police located  O’Brien at 418 S. High St., Atwood, and took her into custody, without incident.

O’Brien was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a $50,000 bond for dealing in a schedule I, II or III controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a public park, a class A felony.

Baby Found Dead at Warsaw Home
Warsaw police and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office are currently involved in a death investigation at a southside Warsaw home.

On Monday at 1:39 p.m., a 911 call was received to Central Dispatch of an unresponsive 2-year-old male at the home of his babysitter.

Upon arrival of police and Multi-Township EMS medics, the unresponsive child was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m.

Warsaw detectives, coroner’s investigators and Division of Child Service personnel are investigating the matter.

An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon at the Northeast Regional Forensic Center, Fort Wayne.

At this time, the cause and manner of death have not been conclusively determined, and the investigation continues.

The identity of the child is not being released at this time, pending notification of family and autopsy results.[[In-content Ad]]
