Meth Found In Car At Hotel
Saturday morning, a Leesburg man was arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine at the Economy Inn.

Harry Caudill, 67, of 7849 N. CR 400E, Leesburg, was arrested on charges of dealing in methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and possession of two or more chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a Class D felony.

At 6:53 a.m., the Warsaw Fire Department responded to a truck fire in the parking lot of the Economy Inn, 3521 Lake City Highway, Warsaw.

When crews reached the vehicle it was not on fire and still had frost on the windows.

A Warsaw police officer found a backpack that was smoking. Inside the backpack the officer found a bottle with a hose and smoke coming out of it.

Officers were informed that Caudill was at the location earlier and had a backpack with him. He later called the incident in to the fire department.

Officers later found the call was made from Caudill’s cell phone.

Sex Charges Against South Whitley Man
A South Whitley man was arrested Saturday morning on felony sexual misconduct charges.

Kevin Michael Smith, 21, of 406 N. State St., South Whitley, was charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony.

Smith allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl multiple times while he lived at their home from November to December 2011.

Four Arrests in Three-week Theft Spree
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. officers arrested three adults and one juvenile early this morning on theft charges related to approximately 25 incidents throughout the county.

KCSD deputies responded to a 12:25 a.m. call of a suspicious vehicle in the Hawthorn housing addition near CRs 450N and 250E.

As officers were converging on the area, a second 911 call was received of a homeowner confronting suspicious individuals outside his residence. The caller was able to provide the central dispatch with a vehicle description and direction of travel. That information allowed a deputy to execute a traffic stop near the Pines housing addition on CR 250E, just north of the intersection with CR 450.

KCSD deputies took into custody the following individuals: Vincent Michael Carnegie, 22, of 4961 S. Mallard Road, Mentone; Elizabeth Janell Shilling, 20, of 421 Sophie Lane, Warsaw; Sherry Lynn Fields, 21, of 421 Sophie Lane, Warsaw.

Officers also detained a 17-year-old male and have preliminarily charged all four with felony theft and burglary.

Officers located numerous items inside the suspects’ vehicle that were associated with vehicle thefts overnight. Kosciusko County detectives were able to locate more stolen property at the 421 Sophie Lane location and a stolen shotgun at a mobile home in Silver Lake.

Detectives believe that the four individuals are potentially connected to almost 25 thefts in Claypool, Silver Lake and Warsaw since the first week of February.

Bond on the three adults has been set at $2,000 each.[[In-content Ad]]
