Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission had very little regular business at their monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon at the old courthouse.

The commission approved a one-year extension for a plat approval from Martin Deider.

It was the second of such extensions for property on Syracuse Lake that is in the process of being developed into Eastview Addition.[[In-content Ad]]"The reason we have (extensions) is for changes that we make, like increasing the minimum lot size required," said Plan Commission Director Dan Richard.

The approval will last until Oct. 7.

The commission then discussed possible amendments to policies in a way to streamline processes and eliminate redundant policies.

Though nothing was passed in the 1-1/2-hour session, the commission, along with John Conley, member of the county Board of Zoning Appeals, went over various issues. They discussed amending or adding verbiage to policies, including things like temporary structures.

Conley used the example of someone wanting to put up a tent for the weekend for a graduation party. Currently, someone would have to apply for a permit to do that.

Bob Conley said he, along with the other county commissioners, would like the plan commission to look at ways to "streamline things and give (Richard and his staff) more latitude."

The board also held a lengthy discussion about temporary hardship residences, like people living in motorhomes or barns for a time on property of family or friends.

Defining what a garage sale is also was talked about. No motions were made or passed during the commission's discussion.

Richard encouraged the nine-member board to look at ways for improvement for next month's meeting.
