Plans Underway To Ease Traffic Congestion

Though efforts are underway to ease congestion at several busy intersections on the west side of Warsaw, it may be five years before motorists see changes.

Kosciusko County Administrator Ron Robinson told the Redevelopment Commission Thursday that environmental studies are underway for a project to build roundabouts at three intersections along Old 30. Robinson said the roundabouts will be built at Zimmer and Fox Farm roads and CR 350W.[[In-content Ad]]He said traffic surveys have indicated a large volume of vehicles move through these intersections at noon and 4 p.m., making it difficult for motorists to turn onto Old 30.

Robinson said the county has $6 million in federal funds to use toward the project. Originally, the money was designated for the Western Route Project, a plan to build a north-south road on the western side of the county. Robinson told the Redevelopment Commission state officials turned down that project and, to keep the money, the county must use it for road infrastructure improvements on the west side of the county.

Robinson said the county also will have to spend some money for the project. He said the amount has not been determined. County officials are pursuing state funding to include road resurfacing to the project.

Robinson estimated prep work for the project will take two to five years.
