Pierceton Takes Bids On Tank Removal
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
PIERCETON - Bids were awarded in the proposed cleanup of an abandoned gas station, a decision was made to sell 2 acres in the industrial park and the go-ahead was given to upgrade street lighting in the downtown area.
During Monday's Pierceton Town Council meeting, Avant was awarded the bid for soil testing, while R.P. Murphy & Associates will do the administrative, planning and engineering of a proposed project to clean up property at Market and First streets, where buried tanks are located at the site of a former gas station.
The bid reward for both portions of the job is contingent upon receipt of grant funds, and soil testing will determine whether it will be feasible for the town to move forward with the cleanup.
The town has an opportunity to receive grant money from the Indiana Department of Commerce for cleanup of the property.
Avant's portion of the project was bid at $6,190, and Murphy's part will be $21,500.
Two acres of ground in the industrial park will be sold to Midwest Roll Forming and Mfg. at $20,000 per acre and with a provision allowing Contech access across the property during construction of its facility.
The town also accepted having the completed roadway in the industrial park deeded to it.
A new pole and light will be placed at Lake City Bank on Ind. 13, and street lights at Ind. 13 and Elm Street and Ind. 13 and Columbia Street will be increased from 100-watt illumination to 150 watts.
An earlier proposal to increase all street lighting in the downtown area to 250-watt bulbs could be considered next year if the overall upgrade can be worked into the budget.
The next meeting is at 7:30 p.m. July 14 in the community building. [[In-content Ad]]
