What do Skittles, Sweetarts and gumdrops have to do with cells? Just ask Michelle Ball’s fourth-grade students at Pierceton Elementary School. The class has been studying cells. They learned that all living things are made of cells. Cells are extremely small. Approximately 10,000 cells can fit on one period in this news article. Students created their own cell models with the following items: cell membrane represented by a plastic bag, cytoplasm represented by Jello, nucleus represented by a gumdrop and chloroplasts represented by Skittles and Sweetarts. Pictured with their ‘cells’ are Sarah Pepple (L), Caroline Bumbaugh (C), Jared Teeple (R) and Alex Hurley (back).[[In-content Ad]]
