Pierceton PD Offers Security Survey
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
PIERCETON - Security surveys are being offered by the town's police officers, town marshal Tim Sammons told council members Monday.
Continuing a campaign to introduce citizens and police officers to each other, Sammons said the program is offered at no charge.
Each confidential survey will be taken by an officer. Recommendations, like trimming back shrubs, adding outside lighting or ensuring that all windows lock, will be offered to prevent theft and vandalism.
Chip Hill, public works supervisor, said leaf pickup begins Monday. The schedule is: Mondays: south of Catholic Street and west of First Street; Wednesdays: south of Catholic Street and east of First Street; and Thursdays: north of Catholic Street.
Hill said work in the street department office's kitchen continues with installation of new cabinets.
Lila O'Connell attended the meeting to report on the Pierceton Art Fair. She said a check presentation to the Pierceton Community Foundation will be made at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Blue Lion Coffeehouse.
Next year's art fair also will be in Brower Park, held July 22, with the addition of a creative writing category.
The board also:
• Heard Steffan Enterprises donated 50 stuffed toys to the police department. The toys will be given to children involved in a traffic accident or other traumatic event.
• Heard the police department will be reimbursed for gasoline expended during a recent Operation Pullover. Sammons said that would amount to about $200.
• Heard the Oct. 7 open house at the fire station went well and the department may turn it into an annual event.
• Approved a resolution to pay hired police officers due to the suspension of Terry Cahill.
• Trick or treat hours are set for Oct. 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Approved a resolution to offer the Public Employee Retirement Fund to town employees.
Town council members are Jerry Kreger and Mandy Espinosa. Bob Tenney was absent. [[In-content Ad]]
