PIERCETON – Town council members held a short meeting Monday with police department matters the main topic of conversation.
Town marshal Tim Sammons said the town website is nearly complete and should be online soon. He asked that council members attend a meeting Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Whitko Middle School regarding security in the schools.
Sammons returned to the question of an M-16 semi-automatic rifle for the department, and council members Mandy Espinoza, Ron Hall and Jim Bumbaugh agreed to the purchase of one gun.
They also approved purchase of a new Ford Explorer for the police department at a cost of $25,972 from Bob Thomas Ford. Kerlin Motors had submitted a quote of $26,917.
The council approved a request from the Palestine, Ill., fire department to transport the Washington Township Fire Department’s ladder truck to their town for a memorial service planned Feb. 23. Palestine will pay for all expenses involved in the transport.
Espinoza was re-elected president of the board.
