PIERCETON - A Pierceton man was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and resisting arrest Sunday near Sellers Lake.

Daniel Ybarra, 27, of Ind. 13, Pierceton, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:39 a.m. Sunday for auto theft, resisting/fleeing law enforcement and public intoxication. His bond was set at $10,000.

According to a report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Randall Reynolds and his wife were sitting in their living room Sunday when they heard one of their trucks start outside.

Reynolds got the keys to his other truck, went outside and began to chase the stolen truck.

Reynolds followed the stolen truck until the driver abruptly hit the brakes near CR 600S, causing Reynolds to hit him, pushing the stolen truck into a ditch.

The driver of the stolen truck, who reportedly was later identified as Ybarra, drove out of the ditch and then hit a mailbox, cement blocks, trash cans and a cable box. The driver tried to continue through a yard but there was fence so he reportedly got out of the truck and ran.

Reynolds said he could not get out of the driver's side door of his truck, and by the time he got out of the vehicle the thief was gone.

When police arrived, Reynolds gave them a description of the suspect, and officers went to look for him.

Officers were unable to find the suspect until they received a tip from a neighbor that the suspect was Ybarra.

When officers found Ybarra, he matched the description given by Reynolds.

Ybarra reportedly approached officers while holding a beer and he appeared to be intoxicated. When officers asked him to put the beer down, Ybarra allegedly refused and officers had to remove the beer from his hand. When asked if he had taken Reynolds' truck, Ybarra reportedly told police he never drove any truck and he didn't know what they were talking about.

When officers told Ybarra he was going to be arrested for public intoxication, Ybarra fought officers trying to put him in handcuffs.

Ybarra was put in the back of a police car and taken to Reynolds' residence, where Reynolds reportedly positively identified Ybarra as the person who stole his truck.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.[[In-content Ad]]
