Students at Pierceton Elementary School recently completed a series of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support trainings on appropriate behaviors in different areas of the school. Pictured are students learning about how procedures work during dismissal and arrival. PBIS is a schoolwide plan for promoting positive, appropriate behaviors at school. PBIS teaches behavioral expectations and social behavior the same way that academic skills are taught. PBIS asserts that consequences do not change behavior, teaching changes behavior. The staff at Pierceton believes PBIS will allow students to grow and will encourage the development of academic, social and behavioral skills of each individual student. The Pierceton Elementary 'Caring and Respect, Use Teamwork, Be Responsible' guidelines were developed by a staff team based on data collected from students and staff. The goal of PBIS is to maximize academic engagement and success. Ideally, teachers will spend less time dealing with negative behavior, more time noticing positive behaviors, and, consequently, more time will be spent on academics.[[In-content Ad]]
