Captain Dave Meadows and his fire dog Shadow, of the Fort Wayne Fire Department, are shown here with first-grader Jaxson Osborn during a convocation on fire safety at Pierceton Elementary School. During the session the students are taught many valuable fire and life safety lessons. Students were taught the value of smoke detectors and got to hear the warning sound it makes. They found out where they should be placed in the home and that they have a birthday. On their birthday the present they want is new batteries. Do you know who is usually the first one to hear the smoke detector if the alarm sounds? The students learned that it is mom. Meadows has been coming to Pierceton Elementary for several years and the students always enjoy his presentation. They are presented information to take home and tell their parents about. Making an escape plan and a family meeting place outside the home are very important, they learned.[[In-content Ad]]
