Pierceton Hires New Principal

The board voted unanimously to hire Barbara Ihnen, of North Manchester. Ihnen and her husband, Max, have two grown children, Matt, of Chicago, and Andrea, of Fort Wayne, and a daughter, Amy, 14, who lives at home.[[In-content Ad]]Ihnen comes to Whitko from Marion Community Schools where she served as early childhood administrator and grant coordinator. She is a Manchester College graduate and earned her masters degree from IPFW, her gifted and talented endorsement from Purdue University and her administrator's license from Ball State University.
Ihnen began her career in education teaching remedial mathematics in the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp.
Ihnen will start work as Pierceton Elementary principal at the beginning of next school year. Earlier this year, current PES principal Ruth Jones announced she will retire at the end of this year.
Ihnen said she is excited to become part of the Whitko community. "I really like the small town," she said.
Ihnen also said she was impressed with the progressive approach PES takes to education. "They're looking for new things to happen," she said, "and not just staying with the status quo."
