Pierceton Days Fest On Tap Saturday

PIERCETON - Doris Kubacki has been selected the Pierceton Day's Festival grand marshal.

She will lead Saturday's "Television To Remember: Past and Present" parade, which starts at 4 p.m.

Leon, Doris and one-year-old Michael Kubacki came to Pierceton in 1952 from Manistee Mich., when Leon joined Walter Shoop at the Pierceton State Bank.

Thirty-four years and five more sons later, Leon retired from the bank. He died in 1999.

Doris is a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw. She has been a long-time member of the Pierceton Home Ec Club, delivered Mobile Meals for many years and chaired several fund- raisers. She enjoys baking for fish fries, cake walks and bake sales. She serves the Kosciusko Literacy Services board.

In 1981, Leon and Doris were named Pierceton Citizens of the Year.

Sons Jim (and wife Kittie) and Bill live in Indianapolis; Pete (and wife Judy) live in Monroe, Mich., John (and wife Renea, live in Knoxville, Tenn.; Mike (and wife Rebecca) live in Syracuse; and Tom lives in Pierceton. Tom's 1975 Cadillac will serve as the grand marshal's vehicle in the parade.

The Kubacki family includes four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and four step-great-grandchildren.

Today

Festivities begin at noon with kiddie rides by Beer and Jessops. The American Legion's all-you-can-eat fish fry is open all day; at 4 p.m. the Pierceton Lion's Club begins serving chicken barbecue, and the Pierceton Masonic Lodge has Edy's Ice Cream in front of the lodge.

From 5 to 6:30 p.m. is the car show registration at Lake City Bank ($10 entry fee). Winners of the car show and the pretty baby contest will be announced at the park grandstand at 8:45 p.m. Also at 5 p.m. "DJ on the Street" begins, sponsored by the American Legion.

American Legion Bingo is at 6:30 p.m.

A free concert by Un-Finished Business will begin at 8 p.m. in the park or in the old depot in case of rain.

Saturday

From 8 a.m. to noon is the Pierceton Ladies' Auxiliary garage sale in the fire station and the First Baptist Church of Pierceton craft and bake sale in the Depot.

At 8:30 a.m. will be the bike race registration on Catholic Street with categories for children 15 years old and younger. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Sparky the Fire Dog will present awards at the finish line.

The Hall family will sing gospel songs in the park beginning at 10 a.m. and the Pierceton Lion's Club will sell corn-on-the-cob and melon.

At 10:30 a.m. is the kids' tractor pull for three- to 10-year-olds.

At 11 a.m. will be the tug-of-war competition in the park, is set up by the feed mill. Beer and Jessops rides will begin at noon. At 1 p.m. Lake City Bank will offer free watermelon.

The parade lineup is at 3 p.m. at Pierceton Elementary School. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. Winners will be announced about an hour after the parade.

At 5 p.m. the American Legion will offer a rib-eye steak dinner, and bingo begins then, too.

From 6 to 7 p.m. the Inclognito Cloggers will perform in Brower Park.

RE/MAX Rainbow offers hot air balloon rides from 6 to 8 p.m. at the ball park. All proceeds go to Riley Children's Hospital.

The American Legion will have karaoke at 8 p.m.

From 8 to 11 p.m. Random Play and Sirface will perform in the park or, in the case of rain, in the old Depot. [[In-content Ad]]
