NAPPANEE - Phyllis J. Strang, 83, of 904 W. Walnut St., Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes May 1, 2010, in her residence.

She was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Bremen, to Howard and Edna Davenport Church. On March 22, 1975, she married Dale "Pete" Strang, who died July 14, 1990.

A lifetime Nappanee and Bremen area resident, she retired from the Lux Co., Nappanee, and was a member of Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren, American Legion Post 154 Auxiliary and Bremen Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Surviving are three sons: Jackie "Jack" (and spouse Gloria) Hamman, Leesburg; Daryl "Butch" (and spouse Jolene) Hamman, Nappanee; and Larry Hamman, Etna Green; two stepdaughters, Sandra Butte, Edwardsburg, Mich., and Mary Ann (and spouse Claude) Robinson, Claypool; a stepson, Edward Strang, Pierceton; a grandson; nine step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Guy Church, Brethren, Mich. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Roger Eberly officiating. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
