He was born March, 10, 1945, in Connersville, to William and Shirley Payne Brett.
He worked at DePuy, Warsaw, for many years before he suffered a major stroke. He enjoyed singing in the Chain of Lakes Barber Shop Chorus for many years. He loved genealogy and history. He was an avid reader, coin and stamp collector. Before his strokes he had the desire of restoring old cars, mainly Studebakers, and giving them to his beloved nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his former wife, Donna Brett, Warsaw; a stepdaughter, Sara (and spouse Chris) Yarber, Bourbon; a step-granddaughter, Allison Yarber, Bourbon; two brothers, Gary (and spouse Jan) Brett, Smyrna, Ga., and formerly of Terre Haute, and Dennis Brett, Terre Haute; two sisters, Carol (and spouse Bob) Perry, Hartford City, and Susan Wilson (and Rick Stamper), Terre Haute; seven nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Sgt. Andrew Wilson.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar Street, Terre Haute.
Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, is in charge of arrangements.
