SYRACUSE - Philip D. Brower, 84, of Leesburg, died at 6:50 a.m. June 3, 2008, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, from injuries suffered as a result of a fall.

He was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Syracuse, to Floyd M. and Alda Guy Brower. On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Eunice Bracken, who survives.

A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer and superintendent of equipment for Elkhart County Highway Dept., retiring in 1987, after 34 years. He was a member of Pierceton Presbyterian Church, North Webster American Legion Post 253, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the submarine USS Cobia. He was a 1942 Syracuse High School graduate and attended Hemphill Diesel School, Memphis, Tenn.

Also surviving are a daughter, Amy (and spouse Steve) Hegg, Indianapolis; a son, Andy Brower, Elkhart; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Pastor Steven M. Mullin officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition, with military graveside services.

Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a submarine veterans memorial service.
