A Warsaw CVS Pharmacy employee and her mother were arrested Sunday after police found they had been stealing and selling hydrocodone pills.
Police responded to CVS Pharmacy, 100 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, for theft of drugs by an employee, according to a press release provided by Warsaw Police Department. Officers met with loss prevention who provided information that Laura Hughes, 21, Warsaw, was stealing hydrocodone pills.
The investigation found that Hughes had stolen between 8,000 and 9,000 10  mg pills over the last 18 months and admitted to police she had consumed about half of those and sold the other half for $5 each.
When Hughes was taken into custody, she had 189 pills on her and had consumed six pills during her shift.
Hughes told police she needed the pills to medicate herself and also for extra income to pay her bills. The investigation also found Hughes was providing pills to her mother, Jeannine Hart, 44, Warsaw, who sold the pills and gave the cash back to her daughter.
Hughes was charged with dealing a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance and with felony theft. Hart was charged with dealing a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance. Each was held on a $17,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Warsaw Police were assisted by CVS Loss Prevention and the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
