He was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Athens, to Samuel Francis and Stella Ann Feece Nicodemus. On March 11, 1947, in Peru, he married Frances Morgan, who survives.
A lifetime Fulton County resident, he was a U.S. Army veteran in the Signal Corp. He worked at Rochester Telephone Co. for 37-1/2 years, retiring in 1987. During his time with the phone company, he'll be remembered for dedication, gentle demeanor and awesome strength - able to actually pick up a telephone pole and placing it in the designated location. He mentored many young linemen. He continued farming, growing corn, soybeans, hay and oats, and raised various breeds of hogs. As a farmer he could be seen working his fields driving either his 460 International or 686 International, growing some of the county's finest soybeans and corn. He continued farming until recently. He looked forward to catching up on the latest news about town at the Mini-Mart, while drinking coffee with his buddies. As the patriarch of the family, he was admired, loved and adored by the six ladies of the Nicodemus family.
Also surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Givens, Akron; a granddaughter, Charlene Givens, Akron; a great-granddaughter, Miranda Kaye Dotson, Akron; three sisters: Lucile Lewis, Kewanna; Louise Nicodemus, Akron; and Grace Edgar, Atlanta, Mich.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Larissa Kaye Givens, in 1989; three brothers, Max, Bob and Ralph Nicodemus; and a son-in-law, Larry Givens.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
