AKRON – Paul J. Pontius, 77, Silver Lake, passed away July 25, 2015, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Wabash County, to Verl and Ruth Smith Pontius. He was previously married to Audrey Gerrick who is the mother of his children.
He retired from Sonoco Products Co. of Akron where he worked for more than 40 years.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid follower of politics. He was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed mowing and visiting with his neighbors. He loved dogs, especially the family dogs that he always had treats for. He was known to love visiting over coffee at local restaurants.
Survivors are: two sons, John (and spouse Margi) Pontius, Silver Lake, and Steve (and spouse Katrinna) Pontius, Akron; a daughter, Teresa Pontius Nelson, Rochester; a brother, Russell (and spouse Judy) Pontius, Laketon; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four grand dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark D. Pontius, in 2004; five brothers: William, Richard, Omar, Robert and Frank; and two sisters, Zelma and Pearl.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor J.P. Freeman of North Manchester officiating. Burial is in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
