He was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Marshall County, to Noble and Fern Haney Dougherty. On May 14, 1961, in Millwood Chapel, he married Mary Lou Klotz, who survives.
He was a graduate of Bremen High School and Manchester College with a business degree. In 1954 he started working at the State Bank of Nappanee. Through mergers, he worked at 1st National Bank of Elkhart and retired from Ameritrust Bank in 1990 after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the Living Gospel Church, Nappanee. He had served at Millwood Chapel Church as a deacon and held many other offices while a member there. He was a charter member of Nappanee Rotary Church. He served on the Union Township Board and was a Union 72nd precinct committeeman. He served on the Wa-Nee Bible Release Time Association for many years. He was an active member of the Nappanee Gideon Camp of Gideons International.
Also surviving are two sons, John (and spouse Lorene) Dougherty, Nappanee, and Greg (and spouse Abby) Dougherty, Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Kathleen (and spouse Rocky) Enfield, Elkhart; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a brother and two sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Living Gospel Church, Nappanee, with the Revs. Mike Raasch and Michael Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
