He was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Nappanee, to Victor R. and Clara Barnhart Yeager. On June 12, 1948, in Syracuse, he married Birda Rhudell "Rhudy" Dennison, who survives.
He was a lifetime area resident of Kosciusko and Elkhart counties. He graduated in 1943 from Union Center High School, Zanesville. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from the United State Postal Service, Syracuse, after 28 years where he served in many different areas. He placed the last bag of mail on the train when it stopped at the old Syracuse Depot before the mail started being trucked in to town. He also farmed and was a bus driver for the Syracuse Schools. He was a member of Syracuse Church of God and American Legion Post 223, Syracuse.
Also surviving are a daughter, Suzanne (and spouse James) Pachynski, Syracuse; a son, Tim Yeager, Syracuse; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise (and spouse Max) Beery, Etna Green; and a brother, Bill (and spouse Janice) Yeager, Akron. He was preceded by a daughter, a grandson, two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of Syracuse American Legion Post 223.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Meetinghouse Room in the Greencroft Healthcare Center North, Goshen, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
