With the help of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Nick Patterson. The purpose of the Nick Patterson Memorial Fund is to provide support for athletic camp scholarships for kindergarten through eighth-grade male students attending Rochester Community Schools or Tippecanoe Valley Schools.

Nick enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 18, 2004, as an infantryman, where he served with 3-505th Parachute Infantry Battalion. In November 2005, he transferred to Charlie Troop, 1st Squadron 73rd Airborne Cavalry. He bravely fought during two deployments. Nick passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, while participating in combat operations in Iraq against known enemies of the United States

I feel this is a great way to honor Nick and continue his passion for sports. It feels great to be able to give back to the community, which has shown a tremendous outpouring of love and support over the last few months. Your words, thoughts and letters have truly been appreciated and have not gone unnoticed. My husband loved basketball and baseball. While deployed, he often spoke of the Iraqi children and his hopes to expand our family. I could not think of a better way to ensure his memory lived on than to create a fund to allow children, who might not otherwise be able, to participate and grow in the knowledge and skills of the sports Nick was so passionate about.

My hope is that all parents, coaches, teachers, and community members are aware of this fund and keep in mind that special child who has shown a love for and/or potential in sports. Nick may not be able to be a coach one day. or watch our son on the basketball court, but, because of Nick, because of his sacrifice, he will be able to ensure that there will be a lot of "Nick Pattersons" shooting hoops, playing second base, and just loving to participate in sports.

You may also donate to the Nick Patterson Memorial Fund by contacting the NICF directly or via their Web site (www.nicf.org). All monies in the fund go directly back to the kids of Rochester Schools and Tippecanoe Valley Schools.

Thank you once again for all of your support!
