SYRACUSE – Patrick Industries of Elkhart recently acquired AIA Countertops in Syracuse, bumping the existing 120 jobs at AIA to 170.

This created a tight squeeze at its current location.

Needing to expand production capacity, Patrick Industries began a multi-state search for its expansion. It plans to add granite and quartz countertop lines and finding a suitable building was critical.

With a team effort led by Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, and joined by the Town of Syracuse and Indiana Economic Development Corporation, it decided on the 142,000-square-foot, long-vacant Liberty Homes building at 203 S. Huntington Ave., Syracuse.

The company anticipates the expansion will add at least 65 new jobs by 2014 and $3 million of building improvements and equipment.

“One of the key goals of the town’s economic development efforts is to keep our existing companies competitive, and we’re thrilled to partner with Patrick Industries and AIA Countertops to ensure its lasting success in Syracuse,” said Larry Siegel, Syracuse town council president.

KEDCo officials say the corporation is proud to see Patrick Industries expand in Kosciusko County.

“Patrick Industries reflects the strength of Kosciusko County companies, a commitment to innovation and expansion,” Jim Tinkey, chair of KEDCo’s Business Retention Committee, noted.

Patrick Industries manufactures building products and materials for the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industries. The company, headquartered in neighboring Elkhart County, is more than 50 years old and operates nationwide in 12 states. They have 27 production and distribution facilities, 10 of these in Indiana.[[In-content Ad]]
