Part Of EMS T52C To Be Vacated

Along with two conditions, the Kosciusko County Commissioners Tuesday approved Larry Contos' request to vacate a portion of EMS T52C Lane on the northeast side of Lake Tippecanoe.
The portion to be vacated is approximately 60-70 feet long.
The conditions include providing an easement for future sewer lines and a reasonable residential turn-around for vehicles.
Emergency medical services want some kind of access or turnaround point for their vehicles there, Area Plan Commission assistant director Matt Sandy told the commissioners. He said the sheriff's department has no opposition to the vacation and since the lane is not county maintained, the county highway department had no opposition either.
However, Sandy said, the plan commission's position is that it not be vacated.
"It is not a through road between T1 and T50 but it may be at some point," he said.
The lane dead-ends on Contos' property, said attorney Steve Snyder on behalf of Contos. Vacating the lane also will allow for some construction on Contos' property. In the last 40 years, the road ended at the split rail fence and there is no access to it from the north or east.
"It's never been opened to the north or east, so it serves no purpose whatsoever except to get to my client's property," said Snyder.
There were no remonstrators.
In highway matters, Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent and Engineer Rob Ladson requested signs at a couple of county intersections be changed.
The intersections are at county roads 400S and 400E and at 500S and 550W.
Stop signs will be moved at each intersection to different corners and yield signs will be repealed.
In other business:
• "They're pretty much on schedule," said county administrator Ron Robinson on the Justice Building expansion project.
Robinson also said county employee insurance will be discussed at the next county commissioners' meeting.
• A questionnaire on direct deposit was passed out to county employees, said county auditor Sue Ann Mitchell, and of the 100 returned, 75 were in favor. Twenty-five were fairly negative. By the end of the year, she said, they hope to have a direct deposit program in place for county employees.
• The commissioners approved a change to the county employees' benefit plan regarding workers' compensation.
County commissioners are Brad Jackson, Avis Gunter and Eddie Creighton.
They meet at 9 a.m. in the county courthouse on every other Tuesday. [[In-content Ad]]
