The Warsaw Park Department board approved a real estate contract for property at 420 Little League Drive during Tuesday's meeting.

The board also approved requesting the city pay $2,000 to purchase the building. The cost of the property is $90,000.

The building is the former Fraternal Order of Police building in Boggs Industrial Park, and is a 2,400-square- foot facility adjacent to Mantis Skate Park.

The facility will compliment the Baker Youth Clubs, and also serve special activities that are held at Mantis Skate Park, such as birthday parties, small group skate park rentals and meeting spaces for cake-decorating and flower-arranging classes.

The facility also could house toddler programs and fine arts programs offered in the summer.

Park board members discussed a revised real estate contract for the purchase of the building.

The board approved at its April 17 meeting submitting a preliminary contract to property owners Gary and Julia Green for review and revisions.

The real estate contract states the buyer agrees to pay $2,000 with the balance of $88,000 at closing.

The contract also states that the carport and water softening system are not owned by the seller, but the seller will be allowed to remove the items from the property prior to closing. The closing sale will take place on or before June 12.

Park Superintendent Jon Garber said the parks department will present a request during Friday's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting for the city to pay $2,000 for the building.

The board also approved a request by Winona Lake resident David Heminger to rent Central Park Aug. 18 to hold an R&B concert, contingent on Heminger providing a list of the performer's references.

Heminger said the concert will begin at 4 p.m. and he expects 500 people at the concert. Groups from Indianapolis and possibly Syracuse will perform.

Garber said if there are more than 500 people expected to attend the concert, security must be provided.[[In-content Ad]]
