'Paper Towns' Movie Tour Gets Lost And Found In Indianapolis

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

After a nationwide Tumblr contest, Indianapolis was one of 14 chosen cities, and the first stop for the “Paper Towns Get Lost and Get Found” movie tour.
Paper Towns author John Green entered the Murat Theater and greeted 2,500 faces, some who waited four hours in the scorching heat. Green was joined with actors from the movie, Nat Wolff and Halston Sage. Alex Wolff also attended the event hosted by YouTube sensation, Smoothiefreak, Akilah Hughes.
“Wow, there’s so many people here,” Green said as he stepped onto the stage to begin the movie tour. Before answering questions from the audience, brothers, Alex and Nat Wolff performed three of their original songs. Nat plays central character Quentin in the movie. They finished their three-song set with the song from the closing credits of the movie, “Look Outside.”
After the Wolff Brothers performed their songs, Hughes said she had a special surprise for Green. Seconds later,  Mayor Greg Ballard thanked Green for all of the positive impacts he’s made on the city. Green has lived in Indianapolis, and his best-seller “The Fault In Our Stars” is based in the city. Ballard mentioned Green’s many other achievements and officially declared July 14 as John Green Day.
“Wow, that’s weird,” Green said as he accepted his plaque in a room full of laughter.
Hughes congratulated Green and asked everyone to put their phones away. Green said he trusted everyone not to record the next 20 minutes while part of the movie played. Green’s surprise cameo in the movie was also shown to the audience.
After watching a 20 minute portion of the movie, Hughes brought Wolff and Sage back onstage to answer questions from many of the audience members.
The cast discussed how they relate to the characters they portray in the movie. Sage said like her character, Lacey, she felt very misunderstood in high school and she was very nerdy. Nat said playing the character Quentin, he felt like he was in a time machine because of their many similarities.
Green mentioned how he was nervous to make “Paper Towns” a movie, because with the success of “The Fault In Our Stars,” he wasn’t sure, he would be able to do that again with similar results. He also said this movie was a “big sacrifice.”
Green also gave advice to the audience and told them to have confidence in themselves, because he was a “regular dufus” and like the characters in his story, he hopes everyone remembers to be themselves, and not be afraid to suck.
Paper Towns is a story about shy protagonist Quentin who goes on a road trip to find the wild, free spirited Margot and ultimately about finding yourself. The movie is in theaters July 24.[[In-content Ad]]
