I hope you will indulge me in a bit of venting of frustration that I feel regarding one aspect (among many) of the coverage by many in the media of the current political race for the White House.

Much ink has been splashed and columns filled decrying Gov. Sara Palin's lack of nearly everything. According to many in the media, she isn't from the right part of the country, doesn't associate with the swells, went to substandard schools, doesn't have the right focus on women's rights and issues, lacks the proper experience and expertise, isn't a good parent, doesn't read the right newspapers and magazines, doesn't answer the right way in an interview, doesn't wear a "proper Republican cloth coat," and on and on and on. How in the world did she ever advance beyond the PTA in Wasilla? Must be that she has fooled all those hicks in the sticks. Geez, if they only knew how to evaluate people up there in Alaska.

It seems to me that we have more than enough people in Washington, D.C., who "know everything." If there is anything that slips by them, then there ore others from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and on most college faculties who can fill in the blanks. Why, if it weren't for those of superior intellect and cultural quality, I don't know what we in "fly over" country would do. We would bitterly cling, I suppose.

Knowledge and expertise relating to the myriad issues with which a leader will be faced can and will be gotten from sources they trust. People can be hired, appointed, consulted, etc. No single person knows it all. Integrity, judgement, statesmanship and dedication to our constitutional system to further the ideals of our country are what a president and vice president must have. I submit that Sara Palin has those characteristics based on her successes and my observations of her conduct during this campaign.

It is very apparent that "Washington, D.C." has too many "leaders" in too many places who set their agendas with their personal desire and advantage as their top priority. They debase our constitution and seek power over others. They pursue self-aggrandizement and financial enrichment at the public's expense. They pander and promote class envy. Those in elected office seek the gold ring - re-election - at all costs. It seems one of the few that has so far escaped with its honor in tact is the military.

I have faith in our American system, the greatest experiment in history that makes it possible for individuals to attain any goal to which they aspire and work to achieve. With all its faults, it is still the best system on earth. It is the only thing in the world that stands between freedom for people to realize their dreams and those who would reduce them to a mass of gray mediocrity. I still believe that good triumphs over evil and right will win the day. But, I just hope this highway that is life doesn't have too many detours.
