Orville L. Wood, 86, of Kissimmee, Fla., died at 12:10 p.m. Feb. 13, 2009, in The Palms at Parkplace Nursing Home, Kissimmee.

He was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Tippecanoe, to Manfurd and Ethel Jane Widmeyer Wood. In 1944, in Pierceton, he married Mamie Lucille Bentz, who survives.

Residing in Warsaw most of his life, he lived in Florida for the last five years. He worked at Dalton Foundries for 15 years and retired from Da-Lite Screen. He was a past member of Pierceton American Legion and Warsaw Moose Lodge. He owned Woodies Donut Shop, Warsaw, from 1960-64. He served in the U.S. Navy and was on the USS Slusser in Pearl Harbor.

Also surviving are a daughter, Carol (and spouse Wayne) Fryer, Kissimmee; a brother, Floyd "Doc" Wood, Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers, four sisters and a son, Mark Wood.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
