Orval D. Johnston, 98, went to be with his Lord at 9:30 p.m. June 19, 2011, at Golden Living Center, Richmond.

He was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Warsaw, to Charley W. and Leota Rhodes Johnston. On June 6, 1939,  he married Aletha B. Beiswanger, who died June 8, 1996.

Living most of his life in Warsaw, he was assistant manager at Carter’s Department Store for 25 years and was a bookkeeper for Fred O. Carey Construction Co. for 20 years. He was a 1931 graduate of Warsaw High School and a member of Church of God, Warsaw, and Eaton (Ohio) Church of God. He was a self-taught pianist and loved to play the piano at home and church.

Surviving are three sons: Gaylord (and spouse Sue) Johnston, Warsaw; David (and spouse Carolyn) Johnston, Columbia City; and Dallas (and spouse Karen) Johnston, Elkhart; two daughters, Rosalind (and spouse Lynn) Morey, Richmond, and Virginia “Ginny” Hermansen, Salem, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many foster grandchildren and step-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by three brothers: Lester Johnston, who died Nov. 21, 1987; Herschel Johnston, who died Jan. 16, 1999; and  Hubert Johnston, who died Sept. 14, 2002; and a sister, Faye VanGundy, who died Jan. 25, 1995.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Jerry Yoder of Warsaw Church of God. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
