By Staff Report-
The study, underwritten by OrthoWorx, will be completed by Cambridge Education LLC, a world leader in the field of school evaluation.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Orthopaedic Capital Center at Grace College.
The purpose of the study is to establish the strengths and areas for improvement that exist in the schools that serve the great majority of students in the Warsaw area. The study will pay particular attention to investigating the breadth, depth and overall quality of the curriculum that is provided at both the school and the school corporation level.
"The orthopedic industry needs highly skilled, talented employees if it is to continue to grow here and provide economic opportunity for the citizens of the Warsaw area," said Brad Bishop, OrthoWorx executive director, "so the local education system has to be excellent on two fronts to support that future growth. It has to produce graduates who have the right education to enter the orthopedics field, and it has to be attractive to employees who are being recruited to the area who are concerned about their children's education."
While orthopedic employers have a particular interest in how the schools develop skills, knowledge and understanding in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, employees are also seeking educational environments where opportunities are provided for students to experience and develop skills in art, music, drama, language arts, world languages, literature, sports activities, dance and gymnastics. Local offerings will be benchmarked against other schools where employees might choose to send their children, particularly in the South Bend and Fort Wayne areas.
In addition to their work at the school level, Cambridge Education will review the quality of the curricular guidance and support provided by both the Warsaw School Corp., the main provider of educational services in the Warsaw and its surrounding area and the State Department of Education. While the study will focus on Warsaw schools, the findings also will be made available to other systems in the area to inform their planning regarding curriculum.
In addition to the larger public meetings, Cambridge Education and OrthoWorx will hold meetings for staff and parents at each of the schools to be reviewed and questionnaires will be distributed to the parents and guardians of all of the students in these schools.
At the conclusion of the process, another open public meeting will be held so the community has an opportunity to hear the findings and recommendations that are being made to local school administrators for their implementation plans.[[In-content Ad]]
