Orthopedics

In the Times-Union there was another article the other day about the orthopedics industry being under the watchful eye of our big brother government.
I don’t know about you, folks, but I am happy to see the Security Exchange Commission doing a fine job of watching over a great company that saves careers and lives with their innovations. All the while Bernie Madoff “made off” with billions of dollars and they were not the wiser for decades.
The way I see it, an orthopedics company, one in particular that we know about, wined and dined some doctors and gave them payment for their time to look at, review and install some implants that they produce.
To me this was a business expense. The doctors over in these countries do not get the training that our doctors receive. They have no incentive to use the best product in the patient that would be available. These companies train the doctors well beyond their normal training and show them new and improved ways to treat the people that they are saving.
There is no doubt in my mind that we make the best implants in the world. Why not? It all started here in Warsaw and we have been doing it longer than anyone anywhere in the world. I firmly believe that people who received implants from these doctors got a better result than they would have if their doctor had used the first thing the Chinese government handed them in the operating room.
Hey, in China, the cheaper the better, right? If you don’t believe me buy a Chinese tool and an American one and go work on your car. Soon after you start your knuckles are bleeding because the tool kinda fit on the nut but not quite so “snap”... Honey, please get me a Band-aid and run me to KCH, then throw away anything in my tool box that says made in China.
I have a made-in-the-USA hip implant. For seven years before that I could hardly walk and the pain was beyond belief. I praise these innovators. I also pray doctors in other countries get the opportunity to use the best on their patients. In my opinion, they did a huge service to these people by showing them a better way.
So 29 million hard-earned dollars will now be thrown away on bombs to kill and maim people. Am I dreaming or are things all screwed up?
The government is a bunch of people that could not get a real job or start a company so they mess with the rest of us.
As a final note. I hope the FDA asks these people that had trouble with their implants if they did exactly what their doctor told them to do. If they are honest I bet they will find they did not.
