NORTH WEBSTER – Orlie J. Black, 83, of Leesburg, died at 8:03 p.m. Nov. 27, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born May 21, 1928, in Leesburg, to Edward E. and Mamie F. Roberts Black. On June 14, 1953, in Reddick, Ill., he married Dolores J. Gall, who survives.
He was a lifetime Leesburg (Black’s Landing) resident except for the two years he served in the U.S. Army at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., during the Korean War. He graduated in 1946 from North Webster High School and attended Purdue University. He worked at Arnolt Corp., Warsaw, for 20 years and retired in 1991 from Whitley Products after 20 years of service, where he was in charge of payroll at both companies.
He was a member of North Webster Church of God, where he served on the committee of Just Older Youth and helped with the crafts for Bible school. He also enjoyed helping at North Webster Elementary School with students in first grade on their reading two days a week for nearly 10 years. He went on many mission trips in the USA, Haiti and South America and attended Church of God world conferences in Europe, Korea, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand.
Also surviving are a daughter, Joni L. (and spouse  David) Bowerman, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a son, Lynn A. Black, Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Rosella “Rosie” Hardy, Shirley (and spouse Glen)  Butler and Donna Bevington, all of Leesburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, sister and nine brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of God, North Webster, with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster.
