Open House At Whitko May 20

SOUTH WHITLEY - An open house to showcase the recently renovated and expanded Whitko High School is May 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The program begins in the auditorium at 2 p.m. with comments from school officials, students and guests about the $16 million project. WHS National Honor Society members will conduct tours until 4 p.m.

The high school is on the southwest side of South Whitley at One Big Blue Avenue. The school district includes Washington, Monroe and Jackson townships in Kosciusko County, and Cleveland and Richland townships in Whitley County.

The work, which began one year ago, includes an addition with a new multi-purpose room, fitness room, expanded office with main entrance security and a handicapped-accessible elevator.

Security in the building has been enhanced with state-of-the-art cameras and door locks. Visitors to the building must come through the office area.

A large, colorful Wildcat floor covering at the front entrance will welcome everyone to the building.

The parking lots and school bus areas have been reconfigured to ease the school grounds' traffic flow.

The school's D-wing, to the west, has been completely renovated and reconfigures to accommodate studies in industrial arts, family a nd consumer science, agriculture, art and music. the auditorium has new seating, lighting and sound systems. The gymnasium has new seating decorated in the Wildcats' distinctive red and blue colors.

The heating and air condition system is new. New restrooms have been added.

The computer room has been designed to keep pace with changing technology.

The changes are a result of many meetings with community members. Patrons were asked about the changes and improvements they would like to see to renovate the facility and many of these ideas were implemented into the finished product.[[In-content Ad]]
