One Arrested, One Sought After ATV Thefts

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

CLAYPOOL – A Claypool man has been arrested and authorities are searching for his alleged accomplice after a pair of ATVs were stolen near Diamond Lake Thursday afternoon.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a report just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday that two four-wheel ATVs had been stolen around Diamond Lake, in the southwest corner of the county. When police arrived in the area, Deputy Kreg Kuhn immediately spotted the four-wheelers along Bruner Road, according to the sheriff’s department.

Kuhn performed a stop of the ATVs, but only one stopped as the second fled, the department said.

Matthew Earl Manns, 25, of 110 Warner Drive, Claypool, was arrested in the stop. He was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a theft charge and is being held on a $2,000 bond.

Police found the second ATV abandoned shortly later, and a K-9 was called into to search the area for the driver, though the attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, the department said.

Now, police are searching for Manns’ alleged accomplice, who he identified as 23-year-old Thomas Glen Hursey of Claypool. Officers were able to contact Hursey over the telephone, but he refused to speak to officers about the allegations.

Hursey has officially been listed as a “person of interest” in the investigation, the department said.[[In-content Ad]]
