NTPA Super Semi Nationals At Fair This Weekend
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
The National Tractor Pullers Association heads to the Kosciusico County 4-H and Community Fair for three nights of power-packed action.
The NTPA Region II drama is Thursday, Friday and Saturday with events starting at 7 p.m. The smoking super farm tractors and wheel standing two-wheel drive trucks are featured Thursday and Friday night. Headlining Saturday evening's event is the super semi nationals featuring stock semi pulling and the fan favorite super semis.
Super farm tractors are similar to pro stock tractors with a few variations. Engine size is limited to 640 cubic inches, they must use the OEM manifold and heads for that brand engine and can only use one three inch turbo. Diesel fuel is still the only permitted fuel and tire sizes is also the same as pro stock tractors. The super farm class is extremely competitive and any competitor has a shot at winning. Taking the lead in NTPA Region II SFT is Ryan Salabien, Maybee, Mich., driving the Case IH-powered "Never Satisfied."
The two wheel drive class uses truck bodies as well as T-bucket and funny car bodies possessing single, supercharged racing engines. These vehicles are known for their high wheel standing passes. This class is a long time fan favorite. Powered by a super charged, big block V-8 these competitive machines charge down the track in style. Bolting to the lead in NTPA Region II TWD action is Rod Allen, LaGrange, handling the "High Voltage" machine.
Super Semis are the heavyweights of tractor pulling. These giants are fan favorites wherever they go and overshadow other competition vehicles. They live up to the title of "Heaviest Motorsport on Earth" in many ways.
The Super Semis weigh in at 20,000 lbs. and pull monster loads stacked on the sleds as they charge down the clay track. Charging to the lead is Greg Hibbitts, Hudsonville, Mich., and the powerful "Pro-Hibbitted" Super Semi. However, J.R. Collins, Painesville, Ohio, piloting the crowd favorite "Buckeye Bulldog" and defending champion Larry Carey, Morely, Mich., and his classic "Dodge Fever" are capable of taking the lead at any time. Other competitors fine tuning their potent super semis should make the battle even tougher as the season continues.
Local super semi driver Mike Metzger of Silver Lake will not be competing with the Liberty Bell at this event, due to "engine problems."
Metzger and Sons Trucking continues to sponsor this event as well as the 10th annual Show 'N' Shine Saturday.
Admission to the fair is $3 daily for adults, $1 for children 6-15 and children 5 and under are free. Event ticket prices vary from free to $25. For more information contact the fair at 574-269-1823, e-mail: [email protected] or visit kcfair.org.
