By Staff Report-
Dr. Steve Grill, KLA advisor emeritus, welcomed the attendees and recognized the many KLA trustees in attendance.
Founder Jean Northenor introduced Indiana State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki, the keynote speaker. Kubacki spoke on leadership components which included the value of community involvement, helping others and standing up against injustices.
“When you have experienced having very little in material things, you appreciate what you’re given and make every effort to give back,” she said.
Allyn Decker, KLA moderator, introduced last year's Northenor award winners, Christon Clark and Rebecca Spitler. Habitat for Humanity community build is well on its way to realization, they explained. Funding has been provided by Kosciusko County Community Foundation and K21. The existing former Power Moves location will be demolished soon to make room for the community build, which will include four Habitat homes and two homes sold to community buyers.
KLA graduates received their certificates from President Nathan Conley, Grill and Northenor.
The Northenor award-winning project, “Community Arts & Theatre Market Research Project” by Chris Ball, Hall & Marose Silveus; Dave Gargis, Symmetry Medical; Nick King, City of Warsaw Municipal Airport; and Ted Westerhof, Bowen Center, was announced.
This project will develop a capital campaign for the creation of a community arts and theater center in Warsaw. This will encompass the community need to grow the Wagon Wheel Theatre and encourage the growth of fine arts in area schools and businesses. The plan is to build the framework for the needs of the next generation and make Kosciusko County a desirable place to live.
The criteria met for securing this award are feasibility, sustainability and impacting the entire county.
The White Paper team that created “Collaborate Kosciusko: a Nonprofit Forum to Further Philanthropy” was given the Trustee’s award. Project members included Amy Cannon, Kosciusko County Community Foundation; Jeff Gill, Grace College & Seminary; Kelsi Griffith, Kosciusko County Community Foundation; and Brad Leedy, sponsored by United Way of Kosciusko County.
KLA is a not-for-profit organization devoted to serving Kosciusko County by encouraging leaders and future leaders to dream and create a better community through White Paper Projects, according to a press release.[[In-content Ad]]
