During their June meeting Tuesday, the council said the issue was brought up by North Webster Fire Chief Jeremy Likens.
Likens, who wasn’t present for Tuesday’s meeting, previously gave the council a quote for a torndo siren system that would cost $22,526.
Council president Jon Sroufe said he didn’t feel as if the town should have to foot the whole bill and said looking for money from Homeland Security, or in places like K21 Foundation and Tippecanoe Township could help offset the cost.
“But there needs to be an upgrade,” said Sroufe.
Two sections totaling about a block of road were approved to be closed during Dixie Days July 30.
The council approved closing East Washington Street from Ind. 14 to the alley beside the coffee shop from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closing East North Street from Ind 13. to the alley from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fees for vendors, like last year, were also waived.
North Webster Town Marshal Greg Church said they may get a barricade to block people from cutting across the shopping plaza just south of the North Webster Community Center.
The council appointed Phil Metcalf as its representative to the library board. Metcalf replaces Kristi Beer who recently moved to Florida.
Severn Trent’s contract with the town expires June 30.
The council scheduled an executive session to discuss a new contract for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
A request from Kosciusko Economic Development Co. for $750 was declined by the council.
Sroufe and councilman Tim Hine noted that they instead intend to use that money toward the community center.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for July 20 at 6 p.m.
That is a Wednesday. The council typically meets on Tuesdays at the North Webster Community Center.[[In-content Ad]]
