North Webster Considering Annexation
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
NORTH WEBSTER - Depending on the outcome of a public hearing later this month, the town's boundaries could soon be changing.
The North Webster Town Council on Wednesday introduced ordinances for annexing two parcels of land - one at the town's north border and one at its south.
The council decided in November to pursue annexation plans. The north parcel includes the site of the planned senior citizen housing complex, while the south parcel will draw in properties from the current southern boundary to the Tippecanoe River and east to CR 825.
Along with introduction of the annexation ordinances, the council signed a resolution approving its plan to provide services. Property incorporated into the town will be afforded the same benefits of that already within the boundaries. Among these are sanitary sewer service, streets and roadways, street lighting and police protection.
The matter is set for public hearing at noon Dec. 23 in the town hall.
In other business, council members voiced their support of the plans of RJ Rentals to erect two 3-unit apartment buildings on lots behind the former Rinker Variety Store. Each unit will be about 920 square feet and have its own garage.
Ralph Luce asked the council if it would be willing to forward a letter to the Kosciusko County Plan Commission in advance of its meeting so he could get approval for a needed variance on setback requirements. The council unanimously offered its backing.
Also, an ordinance will be signed at the Dec. 23 meeting naming the alley along which the apartments will be located Ward Lane. The thoroughfare is not named from Washington to Huntington streets, but is known as Ward Lane north of Washington Street. The property must have a street name so a 911 number can be assigned.
In other matters, the council:
4 Heard from Chris Sanchez of Video and Sound Productions of Warsaw. Sanchez received the council's support of his company leasing time on cable channel 3. He told the council he has been talking with representatives of Triax Cablevision since July and has gotten nowhere even though an agreement has been reached. Council members agreed that the local cable channel needs improvement. The council will send a letter to the cable company indicating that it wants a decision on the matter prior to the town's renewing of its contract in March.
4 Signed ordinances to erect stop signs at the intersections of LaFern and Effie Mae streets and Washington and Blaine streets.
4 Approved renewal of a computer maintenance agreement with Keystone Consulting for 1997. The contract includes yearly software updates. The cost is $2,400. [[In-content Ad]]
