Norman Edward Bales, 72, of the Warsaw/Winona Lake area, died at 8:50 p.m. Aug. 20, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Sept. 5, 1938, in Valparaiso, to Vernon and Ila Allen Bales. On Sept. 7, 1963, in Martinsville, Ill., he married Bonnie B. McNurlan, who survives.

He lived in the Winona Lake/Warsaw area for 48 years, coming from Veedersburg. He was a pressman at R.R. Donnelley & Sons for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He graduated from Newtown High School in 1956 and was a former member of the Mentone Flying Club. He was a loving husband and was proud of his children and grandchildren.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Wright, and Diane (and spouse Roger) Niccum, both of Warsaw; a son, Dan (and spouse Stacey) Bales, Milford; seven grandchildren: Julia and Kyle Wright, Pfc. Daniel and Alexis Bales, Tracie (and spouse Jesse) Niccum Reeder; and Todd (and spouse Gabe) Niccum and Sam (and spouse Monica) Niccum; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sharon (and spouse Jerry) Jarrell, Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Marilyn (and spouse Phillip) Dobbles, West Monroe, La. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Kevin Wright, who died Sept. 21, 1998; and a brother, Warren Bales, who died Oct. 4, 2008.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Gary Boschain of First Christian Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
