AKRON – Norma Jean Burns, 88, Akron, went home to be with the Lord at 3:25 p.m. March 20, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born June 7, 1927, in Akron, to Max and Etta Vickery Kuhn. On Feb. 5, 1947, in Silver Lake, she married Emerson E. Burns, who preceded her in death May 24, 1990.
She retired in 1992 from Edmonton Manufacturing (Topps), Rochester, after working there for 33 years.
She was a 1945 graduate of Akron High School. She was an active member of the Omega Church and Akron WCTU. She enjoyed her church family and church functions. She also enjoyed reading, doing Sudoku and loved being with her family.
Surviving are a son, Randy (and spouse Rita) Burns, Akron; two daughters, Marcia (and spouse Joe) Mikel, Etna Green, and Janet (and spouse Allen) Black, Akron; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Neil Kuhn; and a daughter, Carolyn Bauman.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Thad Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
