By Staff Report-

Nominations are being accepted until the end of the year for torch bearers for the relay to celebrate Indiana's Bicentennial in 2016.
The torch will pass through Kosciusko County Sept. 29, 2016. A festival also is being planned around that time to celebrate the bicentennial, according to Diane Wulliman, co-chair along with Jennifer Whitaker for Kosciusko County’s participation in the 200-year anniversary of statehood.
“We have been meeting for several months now with representatives from different parts of the county. Right now our pressing need is to get the word out about nominating people to be torch bearers in our county,” Wulliman said, adding that nominations are being accepted till Dec. 31. “We also have plans for other events throughout the county over the summer prior to the Torch Relay.”
The relay will start Sept. 9, 2016, in Corydon – the state’s first capital –  and end Oct. 15, 2016, on the grounds of the statehouse. It will pass through all 92 counties, covering 2,300 miles at an average of 72 miles per day.
Nominees must be a current or former Indiana resident and meet one of two criteria: Achieving personal or professional excellence or celebrity status, or making an outstanding contribution to their neighborhood, community, region or state through service, stewardship or involvement. A complete list of criteria can be found at the online nomination page.
After all nomination forms are collected, a juried process in each county will select the torch bearers.
Nomination forms are available at http://www.in.gov/ibc/torchrelay/
Completed forms can be sent by email to [email protected] or by mail or drop-off to Kosciusko County Torch Relay, 100 W. Center St., Room 121, Warsaw IN 46580.
