No Raises At Leesburg

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

LEESBURG - Town workers in Leesburg will not see an increase in salaries in 2010.

The 2010 salary ordinance was read and approved at the regular meeting of the Leesburg Town Council Monday. All salaries will remain the same as 2009. The ordinance was approved unanimously, 3-0.

The council also approved a motion to amend the sewer ordinance. The amendment will allow the town to charge a $1,000 hookup fee for any customers who were not included in the original plan and tap in to the sewer after Dec. 1, 2009.

Joe Tierney, GRW Engineering, said the odor issue seems to be under control with the chemical solution.

Last month, Tierney told the council that there had been complaints about odor coming from the junction of the sewer near the racquet club on Ind. 15. Chemicals were put into the system to inhibit the growth of bacteria on a trial basis to see if the smell could be reduced.

After a month of using the chemicals, the odor has been significantly reduced. Now the chemicals will be adjusted to reduce the amount used, if possible.

In other business, the council:

n Heard several contractors have cut lines related to the sewer. Electric lines and discharge lines have had to be repaired after they were inadvertently cut. The town will check to make sure the sewer plans have been submitted to the locating company to try to eliminate the problem.

n Thanked the Charlton family for putting up the Nativity scene at Clover Park.[[In-content Ad]]
