No Maverick

For 20 months we have seen the phrases "Country First" and "Maverick" sprawled on signs at all of John McCain's rallies. The question one must ask is does he believe his own slogans? John McCain's first important decision of his campaign was to name Sarah Palin his running mate. And for the next two months she showed the world how unqualified she truly is. Republicans at the time said that it was a typical "Maverick move". Was it really? John McCain chose as his running mate a little known woman who was hand picked by conservatives to shore up his base. Since when does making a political selection to shore up one's base considered a "Maverick move"?

Now many people know who gave him the name "Maverick." It was the national media. The same media McCain has bashed throughout his campaign by calling them left wing elitists. And would anyone consider naming an unqualified geo-political neophyte as a vice presidential candidate as a "country first" move?

To date, John McCain has spent his entire campaign saying that he knows how to fix the economy. But he has offered no solutions and pretty much just re-packaged Bush's economic policy. The same policy that has gotten us into the present crisis. If he does have a plan it won't be revealed until after he's elected. John McCain has decided that his solution to our economic crisis can wait until January when he would officially take office if elected. Meanwhile millions will suffer. Is that putting the country first?

John McCain also tells us that he knows how to catch Osama Bin Laden. But doesn't tell anyone the plan. Apparently he will only disclose this plan, again, if he gets elected. American soldiers are being killed overseas trying to catch Bin Laden and you're telling me that he knows how to get Bin Laden but he won't tell anyone how to do it. Is John McCain deliberately holding back information that can catch the man who perpetrated the greatest crime in our history for the sake of winning an election? That doesn't sound like putting the country first to me. That sounds like putting the campaign first.

John McCain also tells us that he knows how to end our dependence on foreign oil. But again no concrete plan that differs from the current administration's policy until after he's elected. Gas prices can go up and the inflation rate will rise. Americans will feel the financial squeeze but McCain tells us wait until January and then he will tell us. Again is he putting country first?

Now this leaves us with two possible conclusions. John McCain is either not telling the truth about knowing all that he claims to know. Or that he does have the answers but won't reveal them until he's elected. Allowing Americans to suffer as our situation worsens. Basically putting his campaign ahead of the needs of our country.
